My view of the world is often constrained to my apartment due to other commitments, keeping up with social media for my work and mundane household things.  So when I can take a few minutes my cats seem to be the subject that is easiest to work on, and they enjoy my adoration.  This is one of the very first pictures I have taken with the camera.  I have a tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 lens to complement the new gear.  It was with a sigh and some sadness that I retired my old camera.  One of the original rebel XTs, it has served me well for several years.  But now on to a new adventure.

Chinatown http://www.leatherhearts.com/blog/2013/7/chinatown Last weekend I did a street photography workshop with Neely Main from Oliver Klink's photography studio.  We did a walk through of China Town in San Francisco.  There were so many subjects for our cameras that I was able to get quite a few beautiful pictures.

China Town

Very few people took notice of my camera and so I was really able to capture people in their day to day activities, like this man bringing boxes to a shop.  I love the way he is the attention of the alley and doesn't even look at me or the crowds around him.  He's just busy doing his work.

I've been to Chinatown a number of times as it's one of my favorite part of the city and have even taken my camera along for some shots but the workshop really focused us on using light and shadow as well as composition to get just the right image.  I like black and whites but the colors that were a part of everyday booths amazed me.  I didn't even notice it until going through my images.

China Town

I look forward to my visits to that area of the city with a renewed vision of the people and the bustle of the streets filled with people and shops.  The area is rich for street photographers.

Leather Alley http://www.leatherhearts.com/blog/2013/7/leather-alley LA2013-2 Just a few weeks ago I was asked to be the photographer for Leather Alley, a portion of the PRIDE festival in San Francisco.  I was honored by the invitation and really enjoying interacting with both the staff and the crowd.  There are some of my shots from the day.

Almost 3500 people came through our alley.  It boggles the mind to think how many people must have been at PRIDE for the day.  I lived in New Orleans and saw the crowds at Mardi Gras.  PRIDE fest is even bigger.  To me this picture really catches the heart of the festival.

It is not only a festival but a way to celebrate our unique commonality.  Individuals come together to celebrate what some people take for granted and I was delighted to be a part of it.

Portraits http://www.leatherhearts.com/blog/2013/5/portraits One of my very favorite things to do is to catch people being people.

Somehow the look they give when they are relaxed and happy is really the best things can get for me.  Catching them in those moments feeds my soul and produces some of the best photography an artist can take.

Ice cream http://www.leatherhearts.com/blog/2013/5/ice-cream One of my favorite subjects is people and sometimes impromptu shots can be the very best.  A child eating ice cream is one of my favorite reminders of the lazy summer days.

I just couldn't resist these moments of the ice cream melting so fast and a boy who didn't care about the sticky mess that was the result of the joy in a simple ice cream.

This summer promises to be another wonderful opportunity for catching people in moments of joy as they venture out into the warmer weather and play.

Mel & Nate http://www.leatherhearts.com/blog/2013/5/mel-nate Everyone loves weddings.  Who doesn't?  And summer in the beautiful Rocky Mountains makes an amazing backdrop for any wedding.  I really enjoyed getting to share in the beauty of Mel & Nate's wedding.  It was a small intimate affair but still had all the important moments.

Peek Waiting to take her turn down the tree shadowed lane Mel stopped for a breather from all the hustle of getting ready.  Here is a last look at the amazing view before venturing down to meet Nate.

There is nothing more romantic than that first kiss after "I Do!".  Here in front of the majestic mountains things could not have been more beautiful.

The cake bite Humor was a great part of everything that day.  Not wanting to miss a chance to have fun, here Mel & Nate show their ability to have fun in such a great expression of who they are.  I feel honored to have spent this special time with them and wish them the very best in their years together.

I just love San Francisco http://www.leatherhearts.com/blog/2013/5/i-just-love-san-francisco I can't lie.  I love San Francisco and everything about it.  Finding photos in the most unlikely places makes it even more fun.

When my son came up and we went sight-seeing we went on a DUC tour.  What is a DUC you say?  Well it is an amphibious vehicle and the starts out on land and then wanders out into the bay back behind AT&T field.

I was delighted to find a whole range of interesting subjects.  This bridge was a dock for working on ships and had this old abandoned look to it.  We finished the tour but I continue to roam the streets looking for fun.  Check back often for new takes on my home city.

A Day at the Track http://www.leatherhearts.com/blog/2013/5/a-day-at-the-track Burning Rubber

My husband loves drag racing.  Well actually he loves racing of all kinds.  I went with him to an NHRA trials and race where we had premium front row seats.  While he and my son watched the cars race down the track I took some time to really catch the action.

This picture was fun to take.  I had no idea that the car frame was separate from the under workings.

I love how this shot capture the real feel of the speed of the car.  We had so much fun that day.  I can't wait to go back again.  The fun is contagious.

A start http://www.leatherhearts.com/blog/2013/5/a-start Lazy Day at the Beach

A lazy Day at the Beach is the start of my photography blog.  I've been immersed in the beautiful art of photography since I was a little girl and handed a wonderful brownie camera.  I am relatively sure that I wouldn't show any one the images from those days but my camera was always in my hand.  During high school my favorite thing to do was use it on our school field trips and for the high school year book.

So why this picture for the start?  Because beaches and the ocean remind me of lazy summer days spent laying on the beach with the waves coming in rhythm and crashing along the edge where water meets sand.  The warm sand, the drowsy feeling of being under the hot sun.  The image calls to mind beach balls, volley ball, boogie and surf boards, picnics and late night bonfires.  There is something magical about the coastal waters and their tides and this photograph beckons us to go and relax.

It's summer.  Go find a swimsuit and beach towel and take a break from the hectic world of city life.
